Christmas Cardinals

What does it mean when you see a cardinal?

Well, it depends on who you ask. Many people believe that they are a sign from the spirit realm, coming to say "I'm ok" or to just visit with a cherished loved one.

There are many testimonies from people who claim that after the death of someone close to them, cardinals started appearing where they never showed up before, almost as if the bird were comforting and watching over them.

What does the cardinal have to do with Christmas?

Their bright color brings a special kind of warmth during the dreary days of winter. They are a symbol of faith, their red color meant to remind us of the blood Jesus shed for us on the cross. That is why you see cardinals on so many cards at Christmas time, as a reminder of His perfect love.

There is a saying that goes, "When cardinals are here, an angel is near" which may have been inspired by this lovely poem by, Victoria McGovern...

"May you come to find comfort in and remember,
Cardinals appear, when angels are near,
So go now, sit outside and drink your tea,
Keep and eye out for the little red bird,
It is there your loved one will be."
Keep in mind, the Latin word for cardinal is "cardo" which means hinge, or door. Could that mean that one of our favorite birds was literally named as a representation of a door between earth and the spirit realm?
